The provincial government of Ontario is investing CAD$5.3 million, or about $4.3 million, in a project to build a new turkey processing plant for Sofina Foods Inc., one of the province’s largest meat processors, the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced by press release Monday.

Part of a CAD$55 million project initiated by Sofina, the new plant is expected to create 100 new positions and result in the retention of some 60 existing jobs. The company employs about 2400 workers at 11 sites across Ontario.

The providence is funding its investment through the Prosperity Fund – Food and Beverage Growth Fund.

Sofina Foods produces fresh, frozen and fully-cooked meat products for retail and foodservice customers.
