American food company Tyson Foods announced Monday that its current chief executive officer Tom Hayes plans to step down for “personal reasons” this September, naming a member of the firm’s enterprise leadership team as his replacement. Noel White will assume the role of president and CEO of the Springdale, AR-based company on Sept. 30, 2018 and also join Tyson’s board of directors.

“Noel is a proven leader who has played an integral role in our enterprise leadership team for many years. He has run our beef, pork, and poultry businesses and is now helping Tyson Foods capitalize on international opportunities,” said John Tyson, chairman of the firm’s board, in a press release announcing the changes. “His deep institutional knowledge and a stellar track record over his more than 30-year career at Tyson Foods and a predecessor company give the board the upmost confidence in his ability to drive the business forward, accelerate global growth and create long-term value for shareholders.”

Hayes served as CEO of the company for two years. The company’s release did not offer specifics on his reasons for leaving his position. Coverage by The Wall Street Journal noted that the leadership shift is occurring as Tyson is working to ramp up sales of its branded meat products.

“It was a very difficult decision to leave Tyson Foods, but after careful consideration and discussions with my family and the board, I know it is the right thing to do,” Hayes said in a statement.

White previously served as Tyson’s chief operations officer and also has held a range of leadership positions over his tenure with the organization.
