American pet foods and treats supplier Tuffy’s Pet Foods Inc. has commenced operations at its new 174,000-sq-ft pet treats manufacturing plant in Delano, MN, according to recent reports in pet food trade publications.

Two extrusion lines with a capacity of 9,000 lb/hr of semi-moist treats and six packaging lines for stand-up resealable pouches were installed in the facility, according to coverage in Pets+ Magazine. Tuffy’s Pet Foods, owned by KLN Family Brands, reportedly committed $60 million to the project.

“The new plant will allow us to expand our offerings and meet consumer demand for healthy treats that are made lovingly and produced safely,” Charlie Nelson, president and chief executive officer of KLN Family Brands said in a statement quoted by Pet Food Processing.

Tuffy’s Pet Foods’ facility in Delano currently has a headcount of about 40 workers, but the company intends to add about 60 to 85 additional jobs when the facility hits its full capacity, reports said.
