Nestle to Invest $39M in Ice Cream Plant Upgrade
March 2, 2018
Food and beverage giant Nestle plans to invest CAD$51.1 million (about $39.5 million) to upgrade its ice cream production plant in London, ON, a company press release said Friday.
A production site for Häagen-Dazs, Parlour, and Drumstick ice cream brands sold in Canada, the Swiss-owned company said the project is driven by “increased growth within the category.” The expansion is also expected to boost production at the site and increase the facility’s purchases of raw materials, packaging, and ingredients from local suppliers.
12 new jobs will be created by Nestle’s investment, and 45 jobs will transition from seasonal part-time positions to full-time roles.
The recently-announced expansion plan, set to reach completion in 2019, involves adding 9000 sq ft to the facility’s footprint to facilitate further production growth. Other investments in the site in 2016 reconfigured and consolidated Häagen-Dazs production lines and added a second Drumstick production line.
The South Western Ontario Development Fund contributed CAD$390,000 to the project.
