Nestle to Buy Conagra Plant in Missouri
March 30, 2018
Swiss food and beverage giant Nestle recently inked an agreement to purchase a manufacturing plant and a cooked-before-canning (CBC) production line in Trenton, MO from food company Conagra Brands, the Missouri Department of Economic Development announced in a press release Wednesday.
The newly-acquired facility will produce Nestle’s Chef-mate products and manufacture some products for Conagra. A number of jobs will be created to staff the new Nestle facility.
“We do not know exactly how many employees we will be hiring. However, we expect our needs to be similar to what will exist when Conagra Brands exits the factory, which right now is approximately 135-150 employees,” Andy Darley, Nestle Professional project manager, said in a statement.
The cooked-before-canning process, a production method that helps meet the demands of certain out-of-home customers, was created at the Trenton plant in 1964, according to the state department’s release.
Nestle said it expects the transaction to close by May 2018.
