American pet food and treats company Nestle Purina PetCare Company announced plans Tuesday to invest $550 million in an expansion of its wet pet food plant in Hartwell, GA. The project will add processing, packaging, and warehouse capacity to the site.

“Purina is thrilled to be expanding our operations in Hartwell,” Purina Factory Manager Winston Silva said in a company release. “Through this investment, we will continue delivering the science-based nutrition pet lovers have come to trust for more than 90 years, with a continued commitment to safety and sustainability in our operations.”

The new investment is in response to increased demand for Purina’s products, according to the company. Its plant in Hartwell produces some of Purina’s biggest brands, like Fancy Feast.

130 new jobs will be created at the wet pet food factory as a result of the expansion. Positions will open in manufacturing, assembly, management, and other areas.

Purina first revealed plans to open the Hartwell plant in 2017. The new production plant opened in November 2019.
