A new production plant for Milo ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages was officially inaugurated Thursday by Nestle in Nigeria’s Ogun state, Nestle Nigeria Plc announced in a press release.

Investing 4.1 billion Naira, or about $11.39 million, in the project, Nestle said will produce 8000 tn/yr of ready-to-drink Milo beverages, a chocolate and malt drink enriched with vitamins released in October 2017. The food and beverage maker also sells Milo as a powdered beverage mix.

“The new Nestle Milo RTD is complementing the existing range of our iconic Milo brand. It is conveniently packaged to offer the unique Milo taste and meet the nutrition needs of active children on the go,” Mauricio Alarcon, managing director and chief executive officer of Nestle Nigeria, said in a statement. “This is in line with the company’s commitments to enable healthier and happier lives.”

Nestle’s new facility, built on to the firm’s existing Agbara plant, is expected to create 100 new jobs.

Nigerian Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo linked the opening of the plant to the country’s economy at the inauguration ceremony.

“This new plant is a reflection of the continued confidence the industry has in our economy. We are grateful to Nestle for these significant investments, particularly for locating its factories in rural communities and sourcing its raw materials from local farmers contributing to the sustainable development of Nigeria,” the vice president said, according to the release.
