Food and beverage firm Mondelez International said Monday that its acquisition of energy bars maker Clif Bar & Co. has reached completion. The Chicago-based firm said the deal expands its global snack bar business and complements its refrigerated snacking and performance nutrition businesses.

“We are delighted for formally welcome Clif Bar & Co. into our Mondelez International team,” the company’s chairman and chief executive officer, Dirk Van de Put, said in a release. “We’re excited about the opportunity to advance our shared passion for delivering great-tasting snacks that help fuel busy lifestyles, while helping to reduce our impact on the planet.”

Clif Bar & Co. will continue to operate from its current headquarters in Emeryville, CA and its manufacturing operations in Twin Falls, ID and Indianapolis, IN.

The transaction is part of Mondelez’s efforts to prioritize high-growth snacking segments in important geographies, the company said. Last year Mondelez purchased the US-based well-being snacking company Hu.
