Confectionery and snack foods manufacturer Mondelez International is reportedly mulling a closure of its Nabisco plants in Fair Lawn, NJ and Atlanta, GA in 2021, local news organizations reported

Mondelez held a meeting with union representatives and workers from its Fair Lawn plant on November 12 to talk about the situation and options the company is considering, Laurie Guzzinati from Mondelez told NorthJersey.com. Guzzinati said the company may consolidate its US East Coast operations at its Richmond, VA facility.

If the company proceeds, the sites will close sometime in mid-2021.

“We are looking for our US biscuit manufacturing footprint to evolve in order to accelerate innovation and growth so that we can continue to strengthen our leadership in snacking,” said Glen Walter, executive vice president and president of North America for Mondelez, in coverage by NJ.com.

600 people are currently employed at the Fair Lawn plant, according to the news website.
