American snack company Mondelez International recently formed a partnership with food business incubator The Hatchery Chicago to collaborate with and support Chicago-area food and beverage startup companies.
The Deerfield, IL-based firm said in a release Thursday that the new relationship with The Hatchery is part of its investment in the company’s SnackFutures innovation and venture hub and efforts to accelerate innovation.
“With SnackFutures, we want to disrupt the food industry by testing new ideas and scaling what works,” Mondelez’s chief growth officer and executive vice president, Tim Cofer, said in a statement. “Working with The Hatchery food entrepreneurs will help us push the boundaries of what is possible in snacking as we continue to build our ecosystem of partners while also giving back and offering guidance to new companies.”
Located in Chicago’s East Garfield Park neighborhood, The Hatchery is housed in a 67,000-sq-ft facility. The site contains production space and offers job training and program placement services, financing, and other resources.
“Through this partnership with Mondelez International, we’re creating even more opportunities for our entrepreneurs and community members to access the mentorship and industry expertise that will help them take their business to the next level,” said Natalie Shmulik, chief executive officer of The Hatchery, in the release.
Mondelez’s innovation hub will focus on three strategic areas – well-being snacks, premium snacks, and digital platforms and capabilities – with the support of internal experts and external partners.
