Mondelēz International plans to close a bakery plant in Jeffersonville, IN, in July that manufactures allergen-free food items for its Enjoy Life Foods brand, the company said in a statement.

In a notice to the state of Indiana on May 2, the company said it will begin several rounds of layoffs in July. The final round is expected in April 2024. The company has 105 employees. 

Enjoy Life Foods makes a variety of allergy-friendly and gluten-free snacks, including cookies, chocolate, and snack bars.

The company filed a WARN Notice with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development indicating its plans to close the facility on or before April 1, 2024.

In its recent first quarter earnings report, Mondelēz shared it saw double digit revenue at an increase of 18.1% net.

In the report, Chairman and CEO Dirk Van de Put said, “We saw broad-based demand across both developed and emerging markets, as consumers around the world continue to prioritize our chocolate, biscuits, and baked snacks categories and brands. We also continued to make significant progress against our portfolio reshaping initiatives, reducing our coffee equity stakes, while driving strong top- and bottom-line synergies from recently acquired assets, including Clif Bar. Our dedicated people remain focused on accelerating and compounding growth through significant investments in our brands, talent and capabilities, while advancing our sustainability initiatives. Given our strong Q1 performance, we are raising our net revenue and earnings outlook for the year.”

Just last week the food giant announced its opening of a global R&D center in New Jersey. The facility includes pilot and scale-up capability for cookies, crackers, and candy.
