Grain products supplier Mennel Milling Co. said this month that it has assumed full ownership of the Renwood Mills grain milling and bakery mix production facility in Newton, NC after purchasing a 50% stake from private equity group Plaza Belmont.
A joint venture was launched between the company and Plaza Belmont in March 2016 to collaborate on the operation of Renwood Mills. The 80-year-old location has a capacity of 7,500 cwts/day and supplies a variety of private label and custom products.
The site was renamed Mennel Milling & Bakery Mix – Newton, North Carolina following the acquisition.
Mennel agreed to sell the branded portion of the Renwood business to consumer branded products firm Homegrown Family Foods LLC, including the Nancy Jane, Formula L, RediMix, Southern Biscuit, and Tenda-Bake brands.
Last month, the company purchased the business interests of the Sanford Milling Co. Inc. in Henderson, North Carolina and its Snow Flake and Daily Bread brands. Production of Sanford Milling products was transferred to Mennel Milling and Bakery Mix facilities in North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia.
“The Newton team and assets as well as the Sanford business are welcomed additions to Mennel Milling,” D. Ford Mennel, fifth-generation president of The Mennel Milling Co., said in a release. “Opportunities like these allow the Mennel family of products and services to continue to strategically grow and meet the needs of our valued customers around the globe.”
