A new, $65 million potato specialty production line by McCain Foods Canada at its Florenceville-Bristol, NB processing plant, a company press release announced Thursday.
The company said the 35,000-sq-ft expansion of its flagship processing facility is its largest capacity expansion project in Canada in the last decade. Growth in the firm’s North American retail and food service frozen potato and potato specialty segments fueled McCain’s decision to invest in the effort.
“Florenceville continues to be the French fry capital of the world. The official opening of the new production line reflects McCain’s ongoing commitment to invest in the needs of our consumers and customers today, and also the company’s focus towards future product development and innovation,” said McCain Foods Limited’s president of North America Jeff DeLapp in the release.
Over 40 new positions were created by the expansion, the firm said, and the facility’s new line will create demand for 4000 acres of potatoes from area farmers.
McCain Foods currently operates eight production facilities in Canada.
