Frozen potato products maker McCain Foods announced Saturday that it is committing $200 million to open a new production facility in the Yangling Agriculture Hi-Tech Development Zone in China’s Shaanxi province.

The new site will boost the Canadian firm’s capacity and production capabilities in China and will work with local farmers to source potatoes. McCain said it initiated the project in response to increased demand for domestically produced products that extend across a range of cuisines.

Headquartered in Shanghai, McCain Foods’ local business, McCain Foods Limited, China, has operated in the country for more than 25 years. The company currently operates another production plant in China in Harbin, Heilongjiang province.

Canada-based McCain Foods has 51 production facilities across its global footprint.
