Mars Edge, the personalized nutrition segment of Mars Incorporated, recently completed the purchase of a majority stake in Berlin-based direct-to-consumer targeted nutrition solutions firm foodspring, the company announced Tuesday.

Following the close of the transaction, foodspring became a standalone business run by Mars Edge. The firm’s co-founders, Philipp Schrempp and Tobias Schüle, will remain in charge of the company from its current headquarters in the German capital.

“I want to welcome the foodspring team to the Mars Edge family and look forward to joining forces to build a global targeted nutrition business and pioneer personalized nutrition,” the president of Mars Edge, Jean-Christophe Flatin, said in a company press release.

Mars signed a definitive agreement to acquire the majority stake in foodspring in late June.
