Protein firm Maple Leaf Foods announced the completion of its purchase of a poultry processing plant near Schomberg, ON and its associated poultry supply on June 25.

The acquisition closed according to the exercise of a put option by the vendors, Certm Inc. and related companies, which was part of a 2018 purchase and sale agreement. Maple Leaf Foods also took on two other plants and their poultry supply under the terms of the deal.

“The acquisition aligns with Maple Leaf Foods’ overall strategy to continue to build its nutritious meat protein business,” the company wrote in a release.

Maple Leaf Foods said in January that its subsidiary, Greenleaf Foods SPC, is acquiring and renovating a food processing plant in Indianapolis, IN to expand production of Lightlife tempeh plant protein products. The new assets will have an initial capacity of 4.5 million kg.
