Cheese and dairy ingredients supplier Leprino Foods is investing about $870 million to open a new dairy products manufacturing facility in Lubbock, TX, according to a recent release issued by the office of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

“This new plant will play a critical role in the dairy industry in Texas and will have a substantial regional impact for dairy farmers across the South Plaints to fulfill daily production needs,” Leprino Foods President Mike Durkin said in a statement. “As we prepare to break ground on this new facility, hire local talent, and establish ourselves as a responsible corporate citizen, we also look forward to being part of the brilliant and growing Lubbock community.”

Up to 600 new jobs will be created when the facility becomes operational. Officials approved a Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) grant of $4.2 million to support the project.

“By selecting Lubbock as the location for their new manufacturing facility, Leprino Foods will earn the powerful distinction of being a Made in Texas brand company,” Gov. Abbott said in the release. “I look forward to working alongside Leprino to keep the Lone Star State the best place to live, work, raise a family, and do business.”

Leprino currently operates eight manufacturing plants in the United States.
