Agribusiness and food company Land O’ Lakes Inc. is preparing to close its Purina Animal Nutrition feed mill in Sheldon, IA this summer, impacting an unknown number of workers at the site.

Operations are slated to halt at the facility on July 1, the company told news radio station KIWA. Production of Purina brand feed products will continue at three other Land O’ Lakes-owned facilities in Iowa.

An email recently sent to the plant’s staff by Purina Animal Nutrition regional director Jim Jackson that was reviewed by NWestIowa.com said the closure was linked to changes in feed manufacturing and capabilities in northwest region of the state. Land O’ Lakes intends to put the property up for sale when manufacturing concludes, the news publication reported.

A list of Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notices on the Iowa Workforce Development’s website did not include the Purina Animal Nutrition closure as of Tuesday afternoon.
