Irish food and food ingredients company Kerry Group recently revealed plans to invest $125 million in an expansion of its food manufacturing facility in Rome, GA. The company said it initiated the project in response to rising demand for poultry and seafood products.
“North America is our largest market, and as such, it is fitting that it is here that we announce our largest ever capital expenditure investment,” Gerry Behan, chief executive officer of Kerry Taste & Nutrition, North America, said in a statement. “This new Georgia facility will be one of the most advanced and modern food manufacturing facilities in the world to support our customers as they produce tasty and nutritious food products, which will be consumed across all U.S. and Canada. This type of world-class facility allows us to co-create with our customers to produce tasty and nutritious food products that meet changing consumer demand.”
The project will double the current production capacity of the Rome site within its existing footprint. Work on the new assets is slated to reach completion in early 2021. Some 400 new jobs are expected to be created as a result of the investment, including management, technician, and operator roles.
Kerry’s plant in Rome will be operated by 100% renewable electricity when the expansion is finished, as well as feature a number of eco-friendly attributes like zero-waste-to-landfill and bulk receiving.
In mid-February, Kerry said it expects its revenue in China to drop by 30% during the first quarter because of the novel coronavirus outbreak.
