Food ingredients and nutrition solutions supplier Kerry Group held an event on Monday to mark the completion of a $137 million upgrade project at the firm’s Rome, GA manufacturing facility, a company release announced. The project was Kerry’s largest capital expenditure investment to date.

“We are delighted to officially open this new facility which more than doubles our capacity in Rome and is now one of the most advanced and modern food manufacturing facilities in the country. The increased and changing demand from consumers for tasty, nutritious, and sustainable food and beverages is driving accelerated change and reshaping the entire food industry,” said Oliver Kelly, chief executive officer and president of Kerry in North America, in a statement. “Investing in world-class facilities, such as this one in Georgia, allows us to ensure that we can continually work and co-create with our customers to respond to this changing demand.”

The 316,000-sq-ft plant now features an array of sustainability-oriented improvements, from using 100% renewable energy to bulk receiving of materials. Energy efficient equipment was also installed in the facility during the effort.

The Rome plant manufactures coatings for the coated poultry, seafood, appetizer, and alternative meat categories, Powder & Bulk Solids reported in an earlier article. About 250 workers are employed at the location.
