The project will create a 20,000-sq,-ft addition to the turkey production facility in Willmar, MN.
Jennie-O, a turkey brand owned by Hormel Foods, has broken ground on its Willmar, MN turkey processing plant. The $30 million expansion will provide an extra 20,000-sq.-ft of processing space.
The expansion is expected to help modernize operations while streamlining processes and improving efficiencies.
A groundbreaking ceremony took place with Jennie-O employees and other guests, including Willmar Mayor Doug Reese, in attendance.
“Jennie-O is the largest employer in Kandiyohi County and has been a strong partner in our Willmar community for many years," Reese said in the news release. "The company now continues to invest in our community, and that is a very welcomed contribution.”
Jennie-O, owned by Hormel Foods since 1986, produces more than 1,500 turkey products and has been part of west central Minnesota for more than 80 years, helping to establish the turkey industry in Willmar and the rest of the state, reported the West Central Tribune.
The build is expected to be completed in late 2025 or early 2026.
