J&J Snack Foods Buys Chicagoland Baked Goods Firm Labriola

The maker of ICEE frozen beverages and Oreo Churros frozen desserts, J&J Snack Foods Corp. announced the acquisition of Aslip, IL-based bakery Labriola Baking Company on Aug. 16, expanding the Pennsauken, NJ firm’s product portfolio.

Founded in 1993, Labriola, based near Chicago, produces prebaked bread, rolls, and soft pretzels for retail and foodservice customers.

“The Labriola Baking Company was built upon high quality, authentic products. We have been a longtime admirer of the company and we’re eager to have Labriola join our J&J Snack Foods family of brands and bakeries,” said a statement by Jerry Law, senior vice president of J&J Snack Foods. “We look forward to marrying Labriola’s quality product offerings with our current portfolio, thus providing additional opportunities for our customers and consumers.”

Labriola Baking Company was purchased by Kansas City private equity firm Plaza Belmont Holdings LLC and a group of investors in 2013, according to information on the company’s website.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed in J&J Snack Foods’ release.
