Multinational food and meat products maker Hormel Foods plans to invest $132 million in the expansion of its Dold Foods bacon production in Wichita, KS and hire about 350 staff, the Mayor of Wichita announced to local reporters Thursday.

“This is a big investment by a company that recognizes Wichita is a great place to grow,” said Mayor Jeff Longwell in a meeting of the City Council, according to the Wichita Eagle. “Now we have nearly 400 jobs coming that are good paying jobs – food processing, manufacturing, and administration jobs – because they know we have a terrific skilled labor workforce.”

Hormel’s project will add on about 156,000 sq ft to the facility, which currently employs about 275 workers, news radio station KDFI reported.

The company’s website said the facility is a “large contributor to the overall bacon production for Hormel Foods.”

An incentive package for the facility is up for consideration by the City Council.
