Chicago-based Hometown Food Company recently closed its $375 million purchase of several brands from The J.M. Smucker Company, including the Funfetti line of cake mixes and edible decorations and the Hungry Jack brand, a press release announced Tuesday.
Owned by private equity firms Brynwood Partners VII L.P. and Brynwood Parnters VIII L.P., Hometown Foods will assume ownership of assets related to the brands Funfetti, White Lily, Jim Dandy, and Martha White, Hungry Jack, and Pillsbury’s range of shelf-stable baking and dessert products. The firm will also operate a 650,000-sq-ft production facility in Toledo, OH.
Along with the announcement of the sales close, Brynwood Partners also said it named Daniel Butler, a veteran of Kraft Foods Inc., to serve as the president and chief executive officer of Hometown Foods. Tim Young was appointed as the firm’s chief financial officer, David Meltzer was named executive vice president of sales, and Dan Anglemyer will become its chief marketing officer. All three have previously held positions in food companies.
“We are excited to have a very talented management team in place at the closing and will be off to a fast start with the new company. We are looking forward to working closely with Dan and his team to bring focus and energy to this business and to execute on our strategy to grow these great brands in the years to come,” Henk Hartong III, chairman and chief executive officer of Brynwood Partners, said in a statement.
Hometown Foods was launched by the private equity firm in June 2018.
