Two workers died following a leak of liquid nitrogen at a food processing plant in California.

Two people are dead following a HAZMAT incident at food processing plant in Vernon, CA on Tuesday, local news organizations reported.

The victims became unconscious after liquid nitrogen reportedly leaked in the facility, coverage by City News Service said. Crews responded to the plant at about 7 p.m.

A man and a woman were transported to an area hospital for treatment, per an account by CBS Los Angeles. They died at the hospital. Officials told the news broadcaster that a Los Angeles County Fire Department HAZMAT team was dispatched to the site.

No information on the operator of the facility was available.
