Gluten-free food products maker Dr. Schär North America marked the completion of an $18 million expansion project at its manufacturing plant in Logan Township, NJ with a ribbon cutting event Wednesday.

The investment doubled the existing facility’s capacity in response to rising demand for the company’s products. New baking and packaging equipment was installed to support the firm’s growth.

“The plant expansion is a bold step for the company – a huge investment and commitment for the US consumer,” Dr. Schär North America CEO and President Hannes Berger said in a company release. “Our proximity to the customer is now even closer, allowing us to provide the freshest product to them.”

Dr. Schär increased the size of the Logan Township facility to 100,000 sq ft during the project. Additional equipment and office space will be added over the next few months.

Serving the celiac, gluten sensitive, and IBS communities, the company’s portfolio includes bread, cookies, candy, crackers, and frozen goods.

Plans for the expansion were first announced in September 2021. Dr. Schär USA’s Logan Township location is focused on the production of rolls and sliced breads for the North American market.
