Oslo, Norway-based supplier of bakery and ice cream ingredients Orkla Food Ingredients signed an agreement to acquire 100% of shares in northern German ice cream sales and distribution company Eis Gräbner GmbH to bolster the Norwegian firm’s position as a supplier of ice cream ingredients and accessories.

“The purchase of Eis Gräbner complements Orkla’s current position in the ice cream ingredients and accessories segment in Germany. The acquisition offers potential for expanding our product range, broadening our distribution and realizing synergies with our present operations,” said Pål Wikeland, executive vice president of Orkla and chief executive officer of Orkla Food Ingredients, in a May 5 press release.

Orkla Food Ingredients provides ice cream ingredients and accessories to the European market, with a strong presence in the Nordic region, UK, Germany, and the Netherlands. The Norwegian company said the purchase of Eis Gräbner is significant because of its geographical location in northern Germany, which compliments the company’s activities in the country.

Established in 1929, Eis Gräbner is based in Hannover and has 18 employees. The acquisition will be reflected in Orkla’s financial statements as of May 1, the company said.

Both companies declined to disclose the terms of the transaction.
