Moving to boost production of porridge oat bars, food company Stoats opened a new, 22,000-sq-ft plant at a site south of Edinburgh, Scotland.
“We have come a long way since I began baking porridge bars in our family kitchen over 12 years ago. We’re really thrilled to be opening our own factory, where we can invest more in developing new products in both existing and new categories, as well as own label products,” the firm’s managing director, Tony Stone, said in a report by the Midlothian Advertiser.
The company also plans to open a kitchen for product development at the site by early 2018. Stoats said the development kitchen will focus on developing healthy products.
“The new factory gives us the opportunity to realize our ambitious plans, including increasing distribution across the UL and internationally. We can be more agile in our approach and we’re better placed to meet demand of retailers and customers,” Stone said in the Advertiser.
Stoats currently produces about nine million porridge oat bars per year.
