Food & Beverage Industry Projects Decline Again in October 2024

There were 51 projects in the food & beverage industry announced in October, which is down from both September and August.

Numbers from the October report on food and beverage planned projects for North America are down, according to Research firm SalesLeads.

October had 51 new projects in the food & beverage industry, which includes facility expansions, new plant construction, renovations/equipment modernization projects, and plant closings. September had 73 and August showed 81.

Of the new projects, 42 were new processing facilities and 16 were new distribution and industrial warehouses. Here is the breakdown according to project type:

  • New Construction – 19 New Projects

  • Expansion – 11 New Projects

  • Renovations/Equipment Upgrades – 24 New Projects

  • Plant Closing – 4 New Projects

SalesLeads researchers found four new Food and Beverage projects with an estimated value of $100 million or more. The largest is by Primient, a producer of food & industrial ingredients, which is planning to invest $400 million for the construction of a processing facility in Lafayette, IN. The company is currently seeking approval for the project.

Lassonde Industries, a fruit juice manufacturer, is investing $200 million for the construction of a 200,000-sq.-ft processing facility in Seabrook, NJ. Construction is expected to start in early 2025. The company will relocate their operations in phases starting in early 2026, with completion slated for early 2027.

VIRGINIA

Shamrock Farms, a milk processor, is planning to invest $59 million toward an 81,000-sq.-ft expansion and equipment upgrades on its processing and warehouse facility in Verona, VA. Completion is slated for Fall 2025.

ILLINOIS

A food co-manufacturing and packaging company is planning for the renovation and equipment upgrades on a 275,000-sq.-ft processing facility in Geneva, IL. It is seeking project approval.

PENNSYLVANIA

A specialty ingredient supplier is planning to build a 260,000-sq.-ft warehouse and processing facility in Smithfield. The company is seeking project approval.

IOWA

 Lopez Dorada Foods, a processing company is planning to invest $45 million for a 24,000-sq.-ft. expansion, renovations, and equipment upgrades on its processing and warehouse facility at in Cherokee. Completion is slated for early 2026.

CALIFORNIA

Specialty food product manufacturer Maruchan is planning a 227,000-sq.-ft expansion and equipment upgrades on its processing and warehouse facility in Irvine.

FLORIDA

A food processing company is planning for the construction of 5 facilities in the state. Construction is expected to start in late 2024, with completion slated for late summer 2025.

TEXAS

A nut processing company is planning to invest $21.5 million in a 132,000-sq.-ft warehouse, processing, and office facility in Horizon City. Completion is slated for fall 2025.

ILLINOIS

Silesia Flavors, a German-based specialty food ingredient manufacturer, is planning to construct a 120,000-sq.-ft processing, research, and storage facility in Huntley, IL. It is seeking project approval.

INDIANA

Pace Dairy is planning to invest $5 million on the renovation and equipment upgrades on its processing facility in Crawfordsville. It is seeking project approval.
