A blaze ignited in a piece of equipment at the Axium Foods snack production plant in South Beloit, IL on Tuesday that forced workers to evacuate the facility and caused an estimated $75,000 in damages, local news organizations reported.
Crews were called to the Oak Grove Ave. facility at about 8:15 p.m. after the fire started in a commercial fryer, coverage by the Beloit Daily News said. Flames reached a conveyor before spreading to a chip seasoning tumbler.
A plant supervisor told television news station WIFR that damages to equipment amounted to $50,000. About $25,000 in product was also lost during the fire, according to reports. No injuries were logged during the incident.
Axiom Foods is a manufacturer of snack products like tortilla chips, corn chips, onion rings, and cheese balls, information on the company’s website said. The company is also based in South Beloit.
