The company plans to invest $200 million to build a new 700,000-sq-ft manufacturing and distribution site in Indiana.

Pet food products manufacturer Diamond Pet Foods revealed plans this week to open a new manufacturing plant in Rushville, IN. The Meta, MO-based company plans to invest $200 million in the construction of a 700,000-sq-ft production and distribution facility and in new equipment and machinery.

“With its proximity to suppliers and customers and access to a high-quality workforce, this facility will allow us to continue offering quality pet foods at competitive prices,” Mark Schell, executive vice president at Diamond Pet Food, said in a company release. “Diamond is family owned and we look forward to adding to our family in a state that’s considered to be ‘the crossroads of America.’”

Rushville was identified as the ideal location for the new facility during a competitive site selection process. Diamond Pet Foods will make a final decision on the project based on the approval of state and local incentives.

“We are pleased to be considering Rushville as the site of our sixth manufacturing facility in the US,” said Schell. “I know our potential partners in Rushville share our excitement about moving to the next phase of development.”

If the plan moves forward, the plant will create 170 new jobs when it becomes operational in 2023.
