Specialty food products and flavor solutions firm Diamond Crystal Brands is planning to lay off more than 200 workers at its Savannah, GA production facility this summer as part of a sale of one of its businesses, several local news organizations reported this week. 

A notice posted to the Georgia Department of Labor’s website shows that 211 workers at the Savannah facility will be separated from the company by August 8. 

“After much consideration, and with an eye towards best positioning Diamond Crystal Brands for the future, we have decided to sell our Beverage Enhancers business to Sugar Foods Corporation,” the company said in a statement to television news station WTOC. “Sugar Foods maintains its own manufacturing locations in Villa Rica, GA and Sun Valley, CA, and will commence production there.”

Diamond Crystal will start to phase down operations at the Savannah site this August. WTOC said the company is not shuttering the plant. 

“The sale of this business in no way interferes with the company’s other business units, each of which is experiencing exciting growth and strong customer demands,” a spokesperson for the company said in an interview with the Savannah Morning News. 

The company plans to help the impacted workers find other opportunities during the transition period. 

Diamond Crystal’s Beverage Enhancers business includes the True Lemon and True Lime brands of beverage flavoring powders.
