Chr. Hansen Natural Colors Buys SECNA Natural Ingredients

Food and nutraceutical colors provider Chr. Hansen Natural Colors revealed plans Tuesday to purchase SENCA Natural Ingredients Group S.L. The company said the addition of SECNA’s pigment portfolio will strengthen its position in the global natural colors market.

This is Chr. Hansen Natural Colors’ first acquisition since it was acquired by private equity firm EQT.

“We’re committed to continuing to find ways to harness and share the power of nature’s true colors. This is the first of many exciting milestones for us as a standalone company,” said Odd Erik Hansen, the chief executive officer of Chr. Hansen Natural Colors, in a release. “We look to enhance our value proposition and strengthen our operational platform together with the team at SECNA at a time when demand for naturally sourced colors is increasing,”

SECNA’s pigment portfolio includes anthocyanins from black carrots and grapes and caramel.

“The combination of our color platforms puts us in a prime position to better serve the market and our customers, and we’re looking forward to welcoming SECNA Groups’ 100 employees to Chr. Hansen Natural Colors team,” said the firm’s COO, Klaus Bjerrum, in a statement.
