Chocolate manufacturer Sarris Candies is gearing up to expand production with the acquisition of a 130,000-sq-ft building in Canonsburg, PA, several local news organizations reported. In addition to making products, the site will also contain packaging capabilities.

Sarris’ new manufacturing site will enable the company to dedicate more resources to its private label business in addition to making its own products, coverage by television news station WPXI said.

“This expansion will give Sarris Candies the capabilities to offer Sarris products across the USA,” the firm’s president and CEO, Bill Sarris, told broadcaster WTAE.

Americans have increased their spending on chocolate and candy during the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, according to data published by the National Confectioners Association (NCA) last August. During that period, sales of chocolate accelerated by 5.5% and premium chocolate by 12.5%.
