American agribusiness Cargill announced the appointment of Brian Sikes as its chief operating officer (COO). He became a member of firm’s executive team in 2019 when he was named to lead its global protein and salt businesses. In the new position, he will also become a management director on Cargill’s board.

“Brian is always thinking about our customers and innovative solutions that will exceed their expectations today and in the future. Equally so, he’s a people-first leader, with an unwavering commitment to health and safety, and builds diverse, inclusive teams that deliver strong results,” David MacLennan, the chief executive officer and chairman of Cargill, said in a company release. “This combination of a growth mindset and strength of leadership will help lead Cargill forward as we fulfill our purpose to nourish the world in a safe, responsible, and sustainable way.”

Before joining the executive team, Sikes led Cargill’s North American protein business. He was initially hired by Cargill in 1991 and has occupied a variety of leadership roles in the protein business in the US, Canada, and Europe.

The company said Sikes’ leadership helped Cargill to increase its offerings of protein products globally. Sikes graduated from Texas Tech University.
