C.J. Foods Buys Pet Food Maker American Nutrition Inc.

Private label dry pet food manufacturer C.J. Foods is poised to grow its portfolio and expand its national and international presence after it entered into an agreement this week to purchase American Nutrition Inc., a producer of super premium dry, canned, and baked pet food and treats.
“This acquisition creates the leading manufacturer of super premium pet food with a national footprint, focused on producing an delivering the highest quality products to our customers,” C.J. Foods Chairman Tod Morgan said in a company release.
When the deal is completed, the combined companies will produce 1 billion lb/yr of pet food, according to the C.J. Foods. ANI currently operates five production plants across the U.S.
“C.J. Foods and ANI are two world-class manufacturers with complimentary capabilities that will make the combination a win for our customers,” said Bill Behnken, who served as ANI’s CEO and president, in a statement. “It truly enhances our ability to provide higher levels of innovation to meet the ever-evolving opportunities in premium pet nutrition.”
Established in 1985, C.J. Foods has three pet food production plants in the U.S. The company exports products to China, Egypt, South Africa, Australia, Japan, many EU countries, Great Britain, Brazil and other nations across the globe.
By 2025, the global pet food market is projected to reach a value of $113.08 billion, a recent report by business insights firm Grand View Research posits.
