Frozen food products manufacturer Ajinomoto Foods North America Inc. is committing $27.3 million to increase capacity at its Oakland, MS production facility, the Mississippi Development Authority announced in a recent release.

“For 13 years, Ajinomoto Foods has been growing its Oakland operations, providing gainful employment for hundreds of Mississippians in Yalobusha County, Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves said in a statement. “This latest expansion starts the new decade on a positive note for economic development as we continue working with our existing businesses, such as Ajinomoto Foods, to help them succeed in Mississippi and provide good jobs for our workforce.”

The company plans to add new production lines during the project, creating about 15 new jobs. After Ajinomoto took possession of the site in 2007, expansion projects were carried out at the facility in 2010, 2013, 2016, and 2018. Asian and ethnic specialty frozen foods are manufactured at the firm’s Oakland plant.

Hiring for the new positions is slated to begin this December. The Mississippi Development Authority said it is offering assistance for transportation and installation of the new lines.

Earlier this month, frozen baked desserts, treats, and snacks firm Sara Lee Frozen Bakery announced plans to invest $19.8 million in an expansion of its Tarboro, NC production facility.
