The contractors reportedly became trapped in the vessel while performing maintenance work at the Elizabethtown, PA facility.

Emergency personnel were called to the Mars Wrigley candy manufacturing plant in Elizabethtown, PA Thursday after two contactors became trapped in a chocolate tank while performing maintenance, local news organizations reported.

Responding to the scene around 2 p.m., first responders cut out a section of the vessel to free the workers, according to LancasterOnline.com. Mars confirmed that two contactors were taken off the site for evaluation.

The US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has opened an investigation into the incident, coverage by local ABC News affiliate WHTH said. Part of the tank was filled with chocolate at the time the workers became trapped.

The workers were employed by industrial cleaning and repair services firm I.K. Stolzfus Services, per PennLive.com.
