Paints and coatings supplier Sherwin-Williams is moving forward on a $324 million project to increase capacity and add distribution capabilities at its Statesville, NC manufacturing plant, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper announced Tuesday.

The investment will add 36,000 sq ft of space to its existing 200,000-sq-ft manufacturing facility, as well as four rail spurs and a new 800,000-sq-ft distribution and fleet transportation center. Sherwin-Williams said the project will increase its architectural paint and coatings capacity by millions of gallons per year.

“Sherwin-Williams continues to invest in initiatives that support our growth for years to come. The planned expansion of our Statesville facility demonstrates a deep commitment to both our customers and the region,” John G. Morikis, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Sherwin-Williams, said in a company release. “This investment will not only allow us to meet the growing customer demand in the region, but it will also add a number of good-paying jobs to our already vibrant employee base in the community.”

183 positions will be created as a result of the firm’s investment. Work on the expansion is slated to begin in the third quarter and reach completion by the end of 2024.
