North America’s largest magnesium sulfate producer, Premier Magnesia LLC, is planning to invest $5 million to expand two facilities in Waynesville, NC, according to several local news reports.

The company’s Giles Chemical business will spend $4.5 million to expand its Lee Plant Road facility and $500,000 on another existing facility on Commerce Street, coverage by The Mountaineer said. 35 new jobs will be added to the two sites as a result of the expansion.

Premier Magnesia is currently seeking economic incentives from Haywood County to move forward on the project. If officials approve the plan, the company will receive a rebate of $81,000 over five years, or 65% of anticipated tax revenue, The Mountaineer said. The Haywood County Board of Commissioners will vote on the proposed incentives when the body meets again.

The Epsom salt plant in Waynesville opened its doors in 2003 and produces products for agricultural and personal care applications, SmokyMountainNews.com said. Premier Magnesia also has a manufacturing site in Greendale, IN.
