Inkjet ink technology firm Fujifilm Imaging Colorants Inc. unveiled its first US manufacturing site for aqueous ink inkjet dispersions this month at its existing New Castle, DE location. The company held a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the opening of the $19 million plant on June 16.

The 8,100-sq-ft facility includes manufacturing and process control equipment and will be staffed by 21 employees. Fujifilm already has a 40,000-sq-ft structure at the site.

“It’s an exciting day for Fujifilm,” Ian Wilkinson, president and chief operating officer of Fujifilm Imaging Colorants Inc., said in a release. “I am proud that we have been able to deliver this brand new production facility according to our original plan, despite the challenges that the pandemic presented us with, and we’re here to celebrate that today. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who were a part of this project, from our own teams to our vendors and local and state dignitaries. I have no doubt that this expansion will continue to create significant growth opportunities for both Fujifilm and the customers we serve.”

Fujifilm’s high purity reactive dispersant (RxD) pigment dispersion products are used to develop inkjet inks used in packaging, textiles, commercial printing, and other inkjet markets. A proprietary technology is used to bind each pigment particle in a secure polymer cage, creating a stable dispersion in ink formulations.

The company also plans to build a second, 11,000-sq-ft plant for aqueous ink inkjet dispersions at the New Castle site. The asset is expected to be operational by next summer.
