A worker was hospitalized after an explosion Friday morning at Midwest Powder Coating Co. in St. Charles that caused $25,000 in damage. According to reports, the man's injuries are not life threatening.
Firefighters found a small fire in a mixing vat in a mezzanine level of the building. The mixing operation was part of a powder coating process. The fire was extinguished in about 30 minutes and no structural damage was reported to the building.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
There were about 50 employees in the building at the time of the explosion. The workers self-evacuated as planned.
