REMBE KUB reverse-acting buckling pin rupture discs are well-suited for complex chemical and petrochemical processes and for pressure equipment such as reactors, tanks, pipework, gas cylinders, and pressure vessels.
The KUB rupture disc is a two-layer system that offers the following features:
• Fast and easy to install. Because it is “plug and play”, there is no torquing required. And, because no torquing is necessary, the KUB rupture disc may be examined periodically and replaced back into its holder. A new disc will not be required until the current one ruptures or is damaged.
• Fragment-free design. When an event occurs and a KUB disc ruptures, no metal will be cast downstream into the exhaust piping. This means that no disc debris will have an adverse effect on end-of-pipe processing.
• Increased longevity. The two-layered design increases longevity because the burst element is protected from potentially corrosive process media. The “domed” side contains precisely laser-cut buckling pins to ensure a precision response to pressure and the second smooth layer isolates and protects the burst element from the process, resulting in a longer disc life.
• Tight tolerances. The design basis and fabrication method we use to produce the KUB result in tight tolerance on the burst pressure. The disc is designed based on the known, accurate relationship that describes compressive failure of a column or pin via buckling. Then automated, precision lasers are used to cut the buckling elements into the disc material. The result is a disc with accurate burst pressure. This provides a high level of confidence that the disc will open at its rated burst pressure rather than too high (which may damage process equipment) or too low (which may result in production loss).
• High operating ratios. The KUB is a domed, reverse-acting disc. This means that it is installed with the domed side of the disc facing the process. The combination of the design basis and fabrication method described above and the reverse-acting orientation result in a rugged disc. This allows processes that are protected by the KUB to operate at pressures that are up to 98% of the minimum burst pressure of the disc without risk of fatigue of the disc. This provides further confidence in the disc and its ability to protect the process as intended.
