Man Killed Unloading Grain into Silo

A Tennessee man was killed July 2 while unloading grain into a silo, after his tanker truck’s boom came into contact with power lines, according to media reports.

Billy Dougherty, 63, of Kingsport, TN, was killed in the accident that occurred on a farm located in McMinn County, about 60 miles northwest of Chattanooga. According to a sheriff’s statement, Dougherty was trying to blow feed into the silo when the boom hit the power lines and the back end of the truck where he was working was engulfed in flames. Media reports show the back of the tanker truck melted from the heat.

Tennessee OSHA is investigating the accident.
