Explosion Rocks Dry Fertilizer Plant

An explosion at Northern Country Co-op's dry fertilizer plant in northern Iowa Monday caused the plant to be shut down while the blast is being investigated.

One employee was taken to the hospital but later returned to work. No other injuries were reported.

The accident occurred at about 11 a.m. as fertilizer was being taken up an elevator leg into a blending bin at the facility in Stacyville.

No hazardous materials were involved and evacuations were not necessary.
