Explosion-Proof Lump Breakers
Nibbler lump breaker from Gericke USA

The Nibbler line of lump breakers from Gericke USA is offered in optional explosion-proof designs for coarse and fine size reduction in explosion-hazard environments.

Developed to support worker safety and regulatory compliance in processing combustible materials, the Nibbler line earned ATEX certification for zones 20, 21, and 22 for providing a high level of protection in areas where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur or remain present continuously or for long periods of time during normal operation.

Ideal for safely reducing food, chemical, pharmaceutical, plastic, and other materials down to 1 mm, the Nibbler features a proprietary design that replaces high-speed grinding and its ignition risks with a low-speed, high-torque, rotating paddle assembly that cuts the material quietly without generating the high heat or excessive fine particles that may contribute to an explosive situation. Shearing the material through a screen via attrition milling, the deagglomerator is often set before feeding, conveying, milling, filling, and mixing and/or after drying, spraying, storage, filtering, and conditioning to ensure powders meet the required particle size at every step for improved efficiency and performance throughout the process.

Comprising seven models, the line of explosion-proof Nibblers includes dust-tight access doors, 10 bar-rated construction, and sealed bearings as standard. A quick-release basket assembly invites easy removal for quick screen cleaning. These ATEX-compliant models are also offered in hygienic designs featuring stainless steel construction, continuously welded seams, and polished internals.
