Chemical Plant Explosion Kills Six

Five people are dead and one injured after an explosion Friday morning at one of Hanwha Chemical Corp.'s plastic production plants in South Korea.

The explosion occurred as workers were welding a storage tank to expand a wastewater disposal facility at the company's No. 2 plant, located in Ulsan, which is less than 200 miles southeast of Seoul.

The plant makes polyvinyl chloride (PVC), a general-purpose plastic used in a wide range of products.

An investigation is ongoing.
