Bean Plant Explodes, Causes Evacuation

An explosion occurred at the Missouri Better Bean Plant in Bunceton Saturday morning, completely destroying the plant.

No one was inside the plant at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported, although two firefighters were being treated for heat exhaustion.

Cooper County Sheriff's Office deputies said a series of small explosions engulfed the plant in flames. Residents within a half-mile of the plant were evacuated. However, the evacuation was lifted just before 8pm Saturday.

The plant processes soybeans into biodiesel.
