Bulk Bag Discharging System
This system transfers non-free-flowing dust materials from bulk bags, drums, and sacks to downstream equipment. Material bridging, ratholing, and dusting can be eliminated through the utilization of this discharging technology. The combination of massage paddles, a combo hopper with an integral dust collector, and a material agitator above the hopper discharge results in a consistent supply of material without generating dust in the plant atmosphere. The massage-paddle design breaks up the initial case-hardened material and keeps it flowing through the discharge spout until the entire bag is emptied. The bag-break door allows materials packaged in drums and 50-lb sacks to be introduced into the same line. The offset Z-style agitator assembly is engineered to pull the material toward the discharge to eliminate material-flow problems out of the hopper.

Level Measurement of Cement/Flyash
The Flexar guided-wave radar continuous-level measurement system measures both cement and flyash in silos ranging up to 100 ft in height. Unlike other continuous-level measurement technologies, guided-wave radar is unaffected by dusty environments such as those that occur when silos are filled with cement and flyash. The Flexar uses time domain reflectometry (TDR) technology to make accurate measurements. With TDR, microwave pulses are guided to the material surface along a continuous stainless-steel cable that is 0.31 in. in diameter. The microwave pulses reflect off the material surface, and the time of flight results in the distance measurement of empty space. The unit calculates the material level based on silo height information; it then transmits data either through smart RS-485 communications for use with the company’s SiloTrack inventory management system or via a 4–20-mA output signal to a remote receiving device such as a control system or digital display meter.

Heat Exchanger
The Bulkflow heat exchanger heats or cools powders and bulk solids and combines the two sciences of indirect heat transfer and mass flow of bulk solids. The powder or bulk solids move slowly by gravity between vertical heat transfer surfaces formed by welding plates containing the heat transfer fluid, typically water in the case of a cooler. A mass-flow discharge device controls the product flow rate. Equipment is contained in a totally sealed unit to eliminate any concern for dirt or contamination. The system does not require large volumes of air to operate, letting gravity do the work to reduce power consumption. A new high-temperature model uses horizontal water-cooled tubes, which minimizes thermal stresses and accommodates thermal expansion. The system cools bulk solids with temperatures up to 1000ºC. In this model, high-temperature solids flow slowly by gravity over the cooling tubes while indirectly being cooled. The benefit of the tube design compared to the plate design is that the geometry of the tube is uniform with even temperature distribution throughout the tube wall to avoid hot spots and local stresses.

Container Discharger
Once a container is properly loaded, it is staged through the automated in-feed system. The operator removes the cover, unties the liner, and pulls it taut over the container edges. After the de-lidding process is complete, the operator will press a Confirm button and the container will proceed into the automated discharge sequence. The container then moves into the equipment on the powered conveyor in-feed system, is automatically positioned in the discharger, and is sealed against the custom discharge hood and rotated 180° to the final discharge position. Material is discharged into the agitator hopper and from the hopper into the existing vacuum conveyor inlet using a horizontal feed conveyor. Once the system determines the container has completely emptied, the system lowers the empty container back to the loading position and discharges it onto the powered out-feed conveyor section. The out-feed conveyor system will have space for 10 pallets of empty boxes.
