techreview_pistonvibrator.jpgPneumatic Piston Vibrator
Hammering a hopper to induce flow can cause damage that may further impede flow in the future. Every swing of the hammer can cause even more flow problems. A pneumatic piston vibrator has a mounting that does not infiltrate the wall of the vessel and a hammer-like action that does not leave dents and dings, making this flow aid a safe and permanent replacement for the person who hammers your hopper. These vibrators have been proven in many applications, including baghouses and dust collection, coal-fired power-plant bunkers and chutes, and storage vessels for breaking bridges and rat holes in dry bulk materials.

techreview_sandgravelcleane.jpgSand and Gravel Belt Cleaner
The Pit Viper sand and gravel belt cleaner is an aggressive precleaner specifically engineered for applications in the aggregate industries. It removes sticky sand and wet fines on belts from dredges, sand screws, and other sand processing operations, and it withstands abrasive rock chips and dust remaining on the belt in crushed-stone plants. The cleaner’s blade has an aggressive angle of attack that increases cleaning efficiency. Its one-piece urethane blade contains approximately 20% more urethane than comparable precleaners, extending service life. The cleaner allows quick and easy “one-pin, no-tool” blade replacement. The sturdy blade drops into place onto the cleaner’s reinforced steel mainframe and is secured with a wire lock pin.

techreview_conveyer.jpgConveyor Belt Lifter
The Flex-Lifter is a conveyor belt lifter with a 4000-lb safe-lift rating. The portable, versatile beltline maintenance tool is designed to safely lift fully loaded troughed or flat conveyor belts. It lifts troughed belts using adjustable wings and flat return belts using a return lift bar that is included with each unit. The medium Flex-Lifter is designed for belt widths from 36 to 60 in., while the large Flex-Lifter is for belts from 48 to 72 in. Lifts are made from underneath the belt without the need for potentially damaging clamps on the belt’s edges or cover. Both models are designed for safety and operating efficiency. When raised, they provide an ample workspace for safe, easy changing of worn idler rollers, maintaining impact beds, or establishing a splicing station for belt repairs.

pbs0701p7a.jpgHorizontal Tube Conveyors
Inherently clean Slipstick horizontal-motion tube conveyors are an alternative to pneumatic and screw conveyors. The enclosed-tube design is airtight, reducing the amount of dust and particles in the work environment caused by product conveying. With its horizontal, slow-advance, quick-return motion, the conveyor protects the integrity of fragile and compressible materials, allowing materials to glide down gently. Consistent motion over the length, width, and depth of the tube also prevents product agglomeration. There are no moving external parts, reducing maintenance and increasing safety factors.

pbs0701p25b.jpgSorter Upgrade Program
Key now offers the G6 upgrade program for select non-Key-brand sorters, modernizing those sorters’ vision engine, cameras, and lighting. This upgrade replaces aging monochromatic cameras with proprietary high-resolution Vis/IR cameras that more accurately identify green and blue defects and distinguish potato peel from brown defects. This improved capability allows the upgraded sorter to detect and remove a wider range of defects on a variety of vegetables, including both peeled and peel-on potato strips, to maximize product quality. Processors can achieve more-subtle feature identification, including sorting based on product size or shape. Defective product can even be defined based on where the defect lies on the product. The G6 upgrade replaces fluorescent lights with a state-of-the-art LED lighting system that produces stable light with a lifetime that is more than 10 times longer than that of the original system.

pbs0701p37a.jpgFilter-Dryer
A portable lab-scale Nutsche filter device filters, washes, reslurries, and dries high-purity chemicals, pharmaceutical intermediates, and other materials efficiently, minimizing contamination and exposure. The design allows the withdrawal of filter cake utilizing a removable bottom head and filter-support assembly. The filter-dryer may be pressurized to aid solvent removal. Vacuum and heating capability aids drying, while cake handling is performed using a manually turned agitator. After the wet filter cake has begun to dry, lumps typically develop, resulting in inefficient drying. To break up the lumps, the agitator is slowly lowered by a lockable handwheel into the cake and rotated in one direction using a top-mounted handle, causing the cake to be broken up and churned. Then the agitator is raised and its rotation direction is reversed. After being lowered to the top of the cake, the agitator smoothes the cake into an even, crack-free form.

pbs0701p42c.jpgFluidized-Bed Dryer/Cooler
This fluidized-bed dryer/cooler can operate at temperatures as high as 1112°F, reducing the cost and the size of the equipment needed. It provides complete control over product residence time. Controlled evaporative cooling with heat recovery, latent heat recirculation, or a combination of both results in 60% less fuel consumption than rotary dryers and other fluid-bed technologies. With an integrated cooling section, product exits the system cool enough to be directly packaged or stored without bag deformation or condensation. Discharged air is collected at the top of the dryer or cooler, and the fines are removed by cyclone or bag filtration. The filtered air is then returned to the process either in the main air supply or in a special dryer zone.
